MTC…First Week Down

Sister Pew and I have just had an amazing experience at the Provo MTC.   We have done many role playing with acting investigators, both non-member and less active.   We've learned how important it is to ask questions so we understand the real needs of someone we teach and then completely focus our teaching on that need.  The person is more important than the lesson.  We've learned to commit the investigators on the first meeting to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it.  We've learned to invite them to church, at least by the second visit, and to commit them to baptism ASAP.   BE BOLD.     We've met many terrific senior missionaries, including David Bailey, a former Y basketball player (when we were in school at the Y) who is taking his 20 year old disabled son with them.  His son is set apart as a missionary also and he looks just like a missionary.  It is touching to watch him.   We've met single sisters that courageously go out and serve and they are smart and doctrine ready!   We met some best friends of a former teammate of mine at the Y, from Fresno, CA.  Lots of missionaries from Davis County and the husband of one of Sister Pew's Cougarette friends is the head trainer at the MTC.    We also ran into Bob Noel, my high school baseball coach who is in a branch presidency at the MTC.   We've seen well- to -do and not so well- to- do, but everyone is humbly learning how to represent the Lord.   Our trainers have been fantastic.  They are BYU students that are returned missionaries and wow, do they know Preach My Gospel! That manual is all we need and it is loaded with information.    We truly are looking forward to getting to England and meeting the saints there.
