| We never tire of this view... |
Great week in San Diego. We taught our 4 classes (Saints twice and Eternal Family twice). Saints lesson was on the troubles in Kirtland in 1837-38 while the Eternal Family lesson was on Building Christ centered lives and homes.
We went to a UCSD volleyball game on Friday evening with about 10 other YSA to support our Collin Shannon, on the team. Below is a shot of him (#7) practicing taken by Elder Pew. He's a big (6'7") kid with good hops from Los Angeles and attends all church and institute events. He is majoring in Cognitive Science and is so so smart. HIs parents are both Doctors at UCLA so becoming a Doc is a possibility. Great Kid!
We attended an event in Old Town where the Mormon Battalion and the Community collaborated on a celebration. It was a fun activity day with a children's parade, performances, pioneer crafts and reenactments. It was very well attended.
We went to the Torrey Pines PGA golf tourney on Friday with our Institute Director and his wife, David and Kathy Walton. Had a lot of fun and saw all the big names - Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose (winner), Ricky Fowler, Tony Finau and others. Torrey Pines was in beautiful condition. Sis Pew particularly found the donuts (hole in one donut) cute. But $4 for a donut was a bit much according to Elder Pew.
We went for a long walk on Black's Beach on Saturday before going to the temple. It was beautiful being down by the ocean - the beach is about 150 yards below the cliffs. The road going down is very steep but the surfers just run down and back. It is a private road, so if you want to drive your car down you must be a neighborhood member to park at the bottom. One of the perks of living on La Jolla Farms Road. Just don't go too far North down the beach because it becomes a nude beach. YIKES!
We ended the week by doing apartment inspections. We traveled east to Penasquitos, Poway and Miramar. It was easy enough and the missionaries were all ready for us. We took them treats (Cereal, a bunch of bananas and a candy bar) to give them a little boost. It was fun to meet a few missionary companionships and see where they were located. We really do miss the missionary piece of our mission. In England we interacted with a dozen missionaries every day. We have a cute set of sisters in La Jolla that we see a few times a week, but that is it.
