Catch A Wave...

Our View as we drive home from church  Pacific Beach to La Jolla

The past 2 weeks have been good weeks for us.  We launched our Sunday afternoon "Come Follow Me" group discussion with the Ward Sister Missionaries (young missionaries) and have included recent converts, investigators and a few lifelong members.  We usually have about 8-10 attending.  We meet at 4pm each week in our apartment, Sister Pew provides treats and we discuss the current week's topic as a group.   There is no leader, just people expressing their thoughts about the scriptures and our Savior.  We hope to continue this all year long.

We've also attended a number of sporting events.  First was the BYU-USD basketball game on February 14 - a great Valentine's date.  USD has a very nice, albeit small, basketball arena, the Jenny Craig Center, otherwise known as the "slim gym".  It was an exciting game that BYU barely won in overtime.  A number of YSA also attended the game.  Second, was more UCSD volleyball watching our own YSA, Collin Shannon.  Collin has really come on lately, usually leading his team in kills and blocks.  For the week of Feb 18-23, Collin was named the Big West Conference player of the week! Congratulations to Collin.

We continue to be amazed with the beauty of La Jolla.  A few pictures below show the beauty of sea meeting land.   Our rides home from Church are gorgeous as we drive over the little hill between La Jolla and Pacific Beach, where the chapel is.

Our institute classes have continued.  We teach Saint's and Eternal Family class twice each week; though usually to a total of about 10-12 students in the 4 classes.  It is wonderful to have faithful YSA attending, desirous to learn about Church History and the
eternal importance of sealed families.

On Saturday, Feb 16, the sun was shining and weather was San Diegan.  So we got our bicycles out and went to Mission Bay where they have a wonderful flat bicycle and walking path.  We rode for about 5-6 miles and enjoyed weather and company.  The people of San Diego have complained about all the wet weather (we laugh - nothing like England) that we have had the past couple months.
But when the sun shines, it is beautiful - 65 or so degrees and blue skies.

We had a wonderful visit from our Kaysville neighbors, Gary and Denise Wright.  Reed and Gary played golf at The Grand Del Mar, Denise and Julie went shopping and then we all had lunch together at a dim sum restaurant.  It's always good to see people from home.

Finally, we spent Wednesday, Feb 27 at Camp Wildwood (a church owned camp northeast of San Diego for YW/YM camps and the like) with the San Diego mission doing companionship and faith building exercises like the Wall, the life-line, the backwards fall, etc. President and Sister Stubbs trained the missionaries for a couple hours.  It was a great experience for all.
