Happy New Year 2014

The past few days have been a bit slower with the holidays.  Most of the YSA are with their families. Nonetheless, we have been able to visit a 20 year old - don't know why he is less active - should not be less active and will become active soon.  It was a delightful visit with him and his mum (we're in England, right?).  He thought long and hard about a church mission before pulling back but he has a strong testimony.
Our Flat is the place for Missionary Discussions, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for Investigators, Missionaries and Young Single Adults.  We also host weekly Missionary District Meetings, Email Days for Missionaries,  and random drop- ins for anyone.

We sat in on a first missionary discussion between George, a 39 year old single man from Malawi and the two sister missionaries in the flat below us.   The sister missionaries, Sister Lyman and Maurunikova are fantastic teachers; fearless, bold and with the Spirit present.   Elder Pew added a bit and George accepted the invitation to read in the Book of Mormon for 5 days and pray with real intent after each reading, then would meet again with the Sister missionaries.   He also said that if he gets strong feelings from the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true, he will be baptized.

December 30-we got our new bed.  Hallelujah!   We finally got a good night's sleep without pharmaceutical assistance. This was badly needed because on New Year's eve, we were chaperones at the YSA new year's dance and party.   It went until 1:00 am, and then cleanup until about 3:00 am.  A bit late for us older people.  YSA's from Leeds, Liverpool, Warrington and Macclesfield plus the usual ones from Manchester came, danced a bit, talked a lot, ate some of the food and generally had a very nice time.

On New Year's day, we had dinner with Nymka (from Mongolia) and a fellow law student of her's - Nami, from Japan.  Nymka's English is pretty good, because she spent 9 months in Liverpool just to learn English while Nami's is difficult.   We had a delightful time with them - pork tenderloin over lettuce and pineapple with veggies, rice and desert.  Everyone that has eaten at our flat so far thinks Sister Pew is a chef. We spent about 30 minutes discussing the gospel with Nymka and Nami, but I'm not sure they understood all of what we said.  Nami is Buddhist so she knew little about Christianity and Jesus Christ.   We invited Nymka to read the Book of Mormon but she was hesitant. Nonetheless, we will probably invite them back for dinner and I think they will accept.

It continues to rain here, is always gray and cloudy and when the wind blows, which is often, cold.  But on January 2, the sun came out and we stepped out on our very small deck to take this picture. It is a very pleasant, temperature probably in the mid 40's.

Love the view. Glad you had party plans on New Years Eve, too!
